Expand your home Wi-Fi coverage quickly and reliably with your Netgear Wi-Fi range extender. Below is the full setup workflow recommended by NETGEAR so you can connect your extender to your existing router and enjoy strong Wi-Fi all around your home or office
A range extender boosts your existing wireless signal into areas with weak or no coverage. This means fewer dead zones and stronger performance for streaming, gaming, meetings, and smart devices — all without buying a new router.
Verify your primary Wi-Fi router is connected to the internet and working.
Note your router’s Wi-Fi name (SSID) and password — you’ll need them during setup.
If your extender has a Extender/Access Point switch, set it to Extender.
Plug your Netgear extender into a nearby outlet, close to your router.
✔ Wait until the Power LED stops blinking and displays solid green or blue — this may take up to 2 minutes.
If your router has a WPS button:
Press the WPS button on the extender; its LED starts blinking.
Within 2 minutes, press the WPS button on your router.
Wait until the extender’s Router LED turns solid green/blue — that means it’s now connected.
Move the extender to a location roughly halfway between your router and the weak signal area.
Best for: Simple and speedy setup without login screens.
On your phone or laptop, connect to the extender’s default Wi-Fi network — usually NETGEAR_EXT.
Open a browser and go to: mywifiext.net.
The New Extender Setup page or NETGEAR Genie appears.
Follow the on-screen wizard: choose your Wi-Fi network, enter its password, and apply your settings.
Take note of your newly extended Wi-Fi SSIDs and passwords.
Once done, reconnect your device to the extended network.
After setup:
Relocate the extender to a central position where the router signal is still strong.
Wait for the Power and Router LEDs to show solid green or blue — indicating a successful completed connection.
